Ok – here’s the deal. This month marks 15 years since we first opened our doors. It’s been a wild ride (especially this year) and one we couldn’t have done without you all. Thank you! SHOP NEWS: Some of you know and others have heard rumblings – but we have made the decision to move Mixed Media to Westdale and also open up a new book shop in the old Bryan Prince space called King West Books (1060 King St. West). We’ll miss being downtown but we feel it is time for a change and the opportunity and challenge came up to do something new in a very special space. Bryan Prince is the owner of the building and has been very supportive of our idea to rejuvenate his old space. We think books and art make a great combo! King West Books (@kingwestbooks) will focus on art, design, architecture, local lit, Canadian and lots of great kids books. Mixed Media has been selling books from day one and we can’t wait to have a bit more space with King W. to really showcase all the books and subjects we love. Mixed Media (1058 King St. West) will continue to stock all your favourite supplies, gifts, art, prints and paper and we can’t wait to show you how it all fits into the new space. This will be a big adjustment but we hope it will be a welcome move. Things are happening fast on our end as we prep for the move. As it stands right now – the James St. location will stay open for the month of August and maybe September in more of pop-up sense. Most of our stock will be moving over to Westdale where we will be open to the public starting Aug. 1st. It has been an amazing ride since we opened our doors for the first Art Crawl in September 2005. We’ve moved locations from 174 to 154, participated in almost every crawl night, created amazing relationships, championed local artists and causes, provided the city with a unique space to find creative goods, got to be part of an amazing time in Hamilton’s history and contribute to James St. North’s renewal. We feel very honoured to be able to do this all. Thanks to everyone who has played a part in Mixed Media’s story so far – we hope you can join us as we move onto the next chapter. See you soon in Westdale Village!

We’ve been going through the shop to begin the gigantic task of listing up many of our unique items online for sale. We’ve had many out-of-town inquiries about some of the more hard-to-find products. There has been a steady flow of traffic from the shop to the post office as we ship everything from Chalk Markers to Pastel papers across the country. You can find a sampling of what we offer on Etsy, starting with our fantastic art supplies.
Today we listed our full selection of Jacquard Acid Dyes and Pebeo Porcelaine 150 ceramic markers. More items will start to appear daily as we go through our massive amount of inventory.
Following last year’s reduced summer hours experiment – we’ve decided to close up again on Tuesdays for July and August. So that means we’re open Wednesday – Saturday 10am to 6pm until Sept. 2nd when we resume regular hours.
We open late to 10pm on the second Friday night of the month for the James North Art Crawl (July 11 & August 8). We are also opening up on Sunday, July 13th to take part in Open Streets Hamilton.
A big part of the reason for the reduced summer hours is so we can enjoy some summertime fun with our family and friends. We wish you a summertime filled with creative pursuits and lots of relaxing downtime.
We’re taking a little break this Canada Day. We’ll be open Saturday June 27 from 10am-6pm and closed from Sunday, June 28 to Tuesday, July 1st. We’ll reopen on Wednesday, July 2nd from 10am-6pm.
From our family to yours – we want to thank you Hamilton for another wonderful year on James St. North. We’re shutting the place down until January 3rd when we resume regular hours (10am-6pm). There’ll be some opportunity to see the shop during the holidays as we open the doors and do some inventory counting – we’ll tweet and post the hours here when we know more info. Once again – Merry Christmas and enjoy some time in our wonderful city with you family and friends!
