Great article in The Spec By Jeff Mahoney about the new Hamilton postcard book published by the Golden Horseshoe Postcard Club. We have been selling it for a couple of weeks now and the book is getting lots of positive comments from customers. It is very amazing to see so many historic views of our city in one beautiful package. Books are $39.95 and will make a great Christmas gift.

Just added to our Etsy shop: Acid Dyes and Pebeo Ceramic Markers

We’ve been going through the shop to begin the gigantic task of listing up many of our unique items online for sale. We’ve had many out-of-town inquiries about some of the more hard-to-find products. There has been a steady flow of traffic from the shop to the post office as we ship everything from Chalk Markers to Pastel papers across the country. You can find a sampling of what we offer on Etsy, starting with our fantastic art supplies.

Pinhole Photography Workshop & Exhibition

Our good friend Jody Joseph use sent us news of a fantastic show and workshop happening soon in a newly christened space inside Dundas’ Carnegie Gallery.

Here’s what she sent us:

Dear Art Lovers, Friends, Students & Colleagues,

I wanted to let you know about a great Pinhole Photography Workshop offered by the Carnegie Gallery in Dundas, October 4 & 5 (Saturday and Sunday), in conjunction with “Revenant,” an exhibition of work by internationally known photographer Dianne Bos.  Dianne grew up in Dundas, and returns with her mysterious and beautiful large-scale photographs.  This show will inaugurate our new “TBA” artspace in the Atrium of the Carnegie Gallery.  The exhibition opens with a reception for the artist the Friday evening before the Workshop, October 3, 7-9:30pm. Come meet Dianne and see her wonderful work!  Her exhibition continues through November 23.

As for the Workshop:  We are fortunate that Dianne is able to offer a hands-on, 2 day Pinhole Photography Workshop at the Carnegie!  Learn to make a pinhole camera out of almost anything, to shoot photos with it, and process the photos in our on-site darkroom!  No experience necessary, but space is limited.  To sign up, call (or stop by) the Carnegie Gallery,905-627-4265.  Cost for the 2 days is $125 and includes all darkroom supplies.  For more details about the workshop, see here.

I am happy to say that Dianne’s is the first of a number of shows I will be curating in the Carnegie’s new “TBA” (it stands for “The Barber Atrium”) artspace. This contemporary addition to the Carnegie’s 100-year old building, and 30 year old artist-run gallery, offers wonderful new possibilities for shows and programming, with its soaring, light-filled spaces.  Hope to see you at the TBA, at this and future shows!

Summer Hours and Events

Following last year’s reduced summer hours experiment – we’ve decided to close up again on Tuesdays for July and August. So that means we’re open Wednesday – Saturday 10am to 6pm until Sept. 2nd when we resume regular hours.

We open late to 10pm on the second Friday night of the month for the James North Art Crawl (July 11 & August 8). We are also opening up on Sunday, July 13th to take part in Open Streets Hamilton.

A big part of the reason for the reduced summer hours is so we can enjoy some summertime fun with our family and friends. We wish you a summertime filled with creative pursuits and lots of relaxing downtime.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

From our family to yours – we want to thank you Hamilton for another wonderful year on James St. North. We’re shutting the place down until January 3rd when we resume regular hours (10am-6pm). There’ll be some opportunity to see the shop during the holidays as we open the doors and do some inventory counting – we’ll tweet and post the hours here when we know more info. Once again – Merry Christmas and enjoy some time in our wonderful city with you family and friends!

Juniper Ridge Made in California soaps and fragrance

Had someone in the shop today marvel about the fact that we actually carry these great soaps and body washes from Juniper Ridge. She kept seeing them on various holiday shopping guides online and was hoping to find a local source.

Juniper-Ridge-soap-thumb-620x401-46224Juniper Ridge’s stuff smells so amazing and it looks like we’ll sell out before Xmas. We just got another small batch of their products and if we hope to keep them stocked regularly come the new year.
